What to Expect |
|||||||||||||||||||||||
| It can be difficult to know where to go and what to do when visiting a church for the first time. Some people may even avoid visiting a church because they are worried they will do the wrong thing. On this page we hope to answer some common questions one might have when visiting our church for the first time. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||
| How do I get there? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Central point is located in the beautiful countryside of the outskirts of Blount County. We are just off of Martin Mill Pike on Central Point Road. Go to our location page for complete directions and a map. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Where do I park? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| We have a place reserved just for you. Our visitor's parking is to the left of the main church entrance and is marked with a sign. If someone is in your "spot", feel free to park anywhere else in the parking lot. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| When should I arrive | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| We suggest that you arrive about 10 minutes before the start of the Worship Service or Sunday School to give yourself time to get settled. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do I have to leave my children with a stranger? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| We have a great team of people that work with the children providing them with a fun and educational experience. Nursery and TLC are available for infants to 5 years old. After the song service, children in grades 1st through 4th are dismissed for Children's Church. However, we understand that you may be hesitant to leave your children the first time you visit. Your children are welcome in our Sunday Morning Service until you feel comfortable leaving them in the child care program. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do I have to dress up? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| In a word.....nope. We don't have a dress code and no one would ever be turned away based on how they are dressed. Those that attend wear everything from jeans and a T-shirt to business casual to a suit and tie and dresses. Most men wear a golf shirt or a button up with casual pants and most of the ladies wear a casual dress or skirt. Come how you feel comfortable. We are more concerned with meeting your real life needs than with what you are wearing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| What should I expect when I walk through the door? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Someone who greets you at the door with a handshake and a howdy (or something like that). When you enter through our main entry there will usually be someone waiting to open the door for you and welcome you to our church. This person can also direct you to or put you with someone who can lead you to child care areas, if needed. A greeter at the entrance to the sanctuary will be handing out the weekly bulletin or you may pick one up just inside the door. We like to keep record of visitors' attendance. We would appreciate it if you would sign the visitors' book at the welcome table. We want to assure you that we do not sell or distribute the personal information that you share with us. However, the church may use that information to express our thanks to you for your visit and to express our love to you as a Christian community. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| What will the service be like? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| We begin our service with a call to Worship in song. This may be a congregational hymn, choir special or someone sharing in special music. Our musical style is best described as blended. Meaning you may hear many different styles of music. But we do have a strong preference for southern gospel and old time hymns. The hymnals can be found in the pew racks along with a Bible. Our Music Minister will direct when it is time to stand and sit. We try to keep the mechanics of our service to a minimum so you can focus your heart on the reason we are there-- to worship. We normally collect an offering after a congregational hymn following the pastor's welcome and announcements. We will have a fellowship hymn during which, at the Music Minister's direction, we will greet each other. The choir will sing a selection and usually someone will share in special music to finish the song service. Then the pastor will share a message from the Word. Following the sermon we normally have an invitation for anyone who has made a decision or wants to come to the altar. Then a prayer is said at the end of the service. Our pastor and his wife usually stand at the door to shake everyone's hand as they leave. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will I have to stand up in front of people and be announced as a visitor during the welcome or fellowship? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| No. Relax. We won't put you on the spot. During the fellowship hymn we will introduce ourselves to you. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will I have to give any money? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Well, there is no cover charge and we don't expect a dime from you. You are our guest. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Will I be made to feel guilty while at church? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| That all depends. Some messages are very encouraging and uplifting. Others will challenge you. The Holy Spirit of God does use the Word of God to bring conviction upon people. If you are convicted during a service, that is a good thing. The Spirit of God brings conviction not as an end, but as a means to growth and change that leads to life and peace. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| What about Sunday School? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| We would love to have you join us for Sunday School. Check out our page under Bible study for descriptions of available classes. Sunday School starts at 9:30. Come a few minutes early so someone can help you find your classroom. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Central Point Baptist is a caring congregation that welcomes anyone and everyone. We want you to discover the joy we share when we come together to worship our God as a church family. If you are planning a visit with us soon, it is our desire that you would feel at ease to join us. We look forward to your visit. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
